which is naturaly rather water proof to begin with. Older housing with single skin walls were usualy made with granite or slate. they are probably bog standard 4" concrete blocks.they are pink as if someone built a garage with them, then they deserve to be shot. my bets are, its not breeze blocks, or thermalite blocks. as if you have ever seen the inside of the external wall ona house when its raining heavy, you will know the water will track streaight through. why do you think they build houses with two skins ? but as pointed out above, there are a few things that can be done to help prevent the problem, but at the end of they day it wont stop it 100%. Right, for a start, single skin buildings WILL leak. but then they leak like hell in bad weather. and thats a fair whack to loose if you aint got the room to build on in the first place. People dont tend to build garages twin skined anymore, as it will end up being a good 300mm at least smaller than you could get it with just single skin. there are some specialist chemicals you can add to the inside coat which will waterproof the stuff even more than your bog standard waterproofer you add to render. they are probably bog standard 4" concrete blocks.įor a start, you can render it inside and outside.
